WORK IMMERSION WEBINAR: The Do's and Don'ts of Job Application

"Perseverance is failing 19 times and succeeding the 20th." - Julie Andrews

Last Friday, the University held a Work Immersion webinar for its Grade 12 students, discussing the Do's and Don'ts in writing your resume and in job interviews. Since graduating grants us the choice to pursue college or a job, we are being prepared for the reality of job hunting and working environment. All throughout the webinar, the resource speaker, Atty. Aini Salvadora, shared a lot of useful tips for us who are new to writing CV and interviews. Having rich experiences dealing and managing people, the talk was very informative. And towards the end, it made me realize a lot of things that never crossed my mind when thinking about searching for a job and working in a company.

Working is not only about earning salary and spending it on things that we want to have or want to do. Working is not only about the material rewards that we receive once we excelled with it. It is about our passion, our dreams and aspirations, our goals in life and what we want to accomplish. We search and apply for a job not only because of the benefits they offer, but also because we feel that it is where we can grow and learn a lot. We work not only for the monetary compensation given to us, but because it is a step forward to accomplishing our goals in life. Therefore, it is crucial that we showcase what we can do and offer our employers. It is fine to go with the flow, but our future also lies within our decisions. Therefore, when applying for a job we feel most passionate about, one must be able to tell the company who are they, what they can do for the business, and what they aspire to become, all with honesty and truthfulness.

Job application and interviews are just the first step for everything. Yet as the great philosopher Plato says, the beginning is the most important part of the work. It is where we build the foundation and where we start to improve. We might struggle and fail, and many difficulties will surely block our path to success, but those hurdles will build our character and experience. Those failures give us a lesson to learn and things to look back on. And from the webinar, it made me realize that even from that, we have to give it our all, so that we can progress and move forward in reaching our life goals.
